Amnesty International: Taliban are disappearing women protesters.
Amnesty International has declared that women who protest against the Taliban often disappear at the hands of this group. In a statement released on Tuesday, June 29th, the organization stated that women under Taliban rule have no fundamental rights and those who express dissent against the group are typically subjected to suppression.
The organization highlighted the prolonged detention of girls in schools in Afghanistan, spanning over a thousand days, and stated that more than two million girls in the country have been deprived of educational opportunities. It also reported that women and girls under Taliban rule have faced detention, torture, and in some cases, sexual violence, leading to serious psychological issues and economic challenges.
Amnesty International has called for urgent action to prevent the violation of women’s rights by the Taliban and urged the UN Human Rights Council to seriously and effectively address these issues with the group.
Since the Taliban takeover, hundreds of women have been detained for protesting against human rights violations and their own freedom. Some have mysteriously disappeared or directly targeted in shooting attacks.
