The Taliban Ministry of Industry and Commerce, with its announcement of new plans to increase exports and imports, has entered Afghanistan’s economic scene positively. These initiatives are not only seen as economic achievements but also as cultural and literary reflections of the country’s prosperity and growth.

Jawad Ahkondzada, the spokesperson for this ministry, informed reporters that in the past three months, Afghanistan exported $428 million worth of commodities to other countries and imported $2.255 billion.

He stated, “Afghanistan’s trade in the first quarter of 2024 amounted to approximately $2.683 billion, with exports totaling about $428 million and imports reaching $2.255 billion. The exports mainly went to countries such as Pakistan, India, Iran, China, the United Arab Emirates, and other countries.”

According to this Taliban official, efforts are underway to increase trade volumes with regional and global countries. The country’s major export items include dried fruits, fresh fruits, carpets, and precious and semi-precious stones.
